Our aim

The Bishop’s Stortford Food Bank is registered with the Charity Commission and our aim is

‘The prevention or relief of poverty in Hertfordshire and Essex in particular, but not exclusively, by providing emergency food supplies and related provisions to individuals in need and to charities or other organisations working to prevent or relieve poverty.’

Our registered charity number is 1154800.

How we are run

The Food Bank is managed by a board of trustees from the local community. They bring a wide range of personal and professional skills and experience to ensure the charity operates within the legal responsibilities and regulations it is required to follow to meet its aim.

The trustees meet formally at least four times a year. Smaller working groups convene more frequently to support our volunteers and raise the profile of the Food Bank in the local community.

None of our volunteers or trustees receive any payment for their time. Thanks to local support, the Food Bank employs a part-time Food Bank Manager and a part-time Assistant Manager who run the day-to-day operation of our centre in South Street.
